What a great weekend! 22 rigs and 90 for dinner! We had 5 early arrivals on Thursday. The weather was a bit rainy Friday, but Saturday was perfect for cooking outdoors. Friday brought shopping time for Sofia, Robin and Joan. In a perfect world, everything goes smoothly. But…the meat manager didn’t have our Turkeys. Seeing how this has happened before, Robin and I were fairly calm. We merely informed him that we needed 5 20lb Turkeys defrosted by Saturday morning. No problem, Turkeys were indeed ready at 9AM Saturday morning as promised. Friday night hospitality was Minestrone Soup and French Bread. The big club pot was full to the brim. Saturday morning, the kitchen was buzzing with activity. Bob and Joan headed the pie crew as always. They made 5 pumpkin pies and 4 apple pies. Bob made the three pecan pies the night before. Then the stuffing brigade, potato peelers, relish tray makers and carvers answered the call for help through out the day. In between all this, the craft fair was up and going at 11. Tanya B. led a quilting session all weekend long. By 5:00 the relish trays were out as appetizers and by 5:30 we were ready to start with dinner. Everyone enjoyed dinner and while we were getting ready for dessert, Santa came to visit. He had only a small line this year, but the teens decided that he needed more company. Thanks Santa, see you next year! There were many prospects for the Turkey award, but Gary B. received it for dropping his trailer on his truck bed for the 2nd time within a few years. Special thanks to my partner in crime in the kitchen-Robin. Thanks to Dave A. for a great job on the Turkeys. Thanks to Bob and Joan for heading the crew of bakers. Also thanks to EVERYONE who helped. This campout would not be possible without everyone’s help. So to all that helped in the kitchen, with clean up, setting up tables and chairs, or anything at all: THANK YOU! We couldn’t do it without you. With Sunday came the donuts and the fire department. They brought the big Ladder Truck and an Engine as well. For the first time since I have been around (20 years), the small Engine had to leave as they had a call while visiting our campground. All those toys we brought fit in the Ladder Truck. Thanks to all for your generosity. The fire department appreciated it as well. I think they also appreciated the two pumpkin pies I gave them. As I have always said, this is one of my favorite campouts. The family feeling of everyone working together in the kitchen is comforting. You all are our extended family and we love you being part of our family.
May everyone be blessed with a happy and safe Holiday Season. See you all in April! Bob & Sofia John & Robin |
